5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, what a lovely piece of kit., 20 Sep 2011

I am really pleased with this phone. I've had the HTC Hero, and Wildfire, and this is just great, I loved the HTC hero because you could have the old style phone key pad to write texts with predictive text, and this sony allows that too, or turn it side ways and you can have the qwerty keyboard.

Everything is simple on this phone, its easy to add shortcuts, and simple to navigate. The screen colours are very slick, HD camera is amazing. This phone takes amazing pictures, and the zoom is silly on this, goes on forever.

I have the Gold back version, its not bling, just quite subtle, the phone is not massive, its no Iphone in terms of the width, it's just slightly bigger than a normal phone, but with the screen so clear and being able to zoom in on web pages there is no need to hold a huge phone, or carry some of these silly sized smart phones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Xperia Ray - Just Right, 15 Oct 2011

xperia ray - just the right size just the right weight, i had an xperia mini before this and found it too small and other mobiles iv found to be just too big. to me this is just right.
The 8mp camera with face detection takes great pictures and video clips. The camera has a good zoom but there is no zoom in video mode. The camera does not have a flash the led on the back is used as a light in both picture taking and video shooting. The camera works really well in low light conditions and only in really dark situations will you need to put the light on to take a picture or video. (makes for a handy torch)
Battery life is good, id say over average but not amazing and charging back up is fairly quick.
The only thing missing for me is sms inbox, all sms messages are in conversation view (threaded) i miss not having the good old inbox view although im getting used to the chatroom style messaging.
im no expert on touch screens, the xperia rays works a treat responsive... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent *small* smartphone, 15 Dec 2011

I've stayed away from smart phones for years, clinging onto my old but pleasingly tiny panasonic. Sadly that has now died so i began the quest for a new phone.

Previously smart phones seemed to me to fall largely into 3 categories: 1) iPhones - fabulously designed but also fabulously expensive, especially if you want capacity; 2) 2nd rate iPhone wannabes (sorry fandroids, just my opinion, till now anyway); and 3) large, clunky and poorly designed bricks that are somehow pretending to be pocket netbooks. All rather unappealing for their own reasons.

Sony Ericsson seem to have left that all behind and started making some cracking phones. The Xperia Ray is a lovely bit of kit. Very small, superb battery life, lovely screen, half decent camera, well thought out interface, good specs, smooth operation and remarkably clear and loud speaker. There really isn't too much wrong with it, and it feels very nicely made - quite sexy and tactile too. The screen may be a bit... Read more
