I am a new mac convert and up until now have only ever used PCs and my iPad and I have to say the transition to mac has not been daunting at all, but simplicity in itself.I didn't know whether to go for this machine or the larger 15" i7 processor, as i would be using it for design work on the go and I use a processor heavy adobe creative suite, and I have to say I made the right choice.as it performs any task I throw at it with ease. the extra cost was in the end simply not warranted, and the bonus is, this is perfectly adequate in terms of size and ultra portable. I purchased this with parallels software and a copy of windows which allows me to work on windows for web development and design packages for mac side by side which really is the best of both worlds and this is simply astonishing as this wasn't possible only a couple of years... I bought a G4 PowerMac that year and it's still running well today. Since then I've owned a number of Apple products, this Macbook Pro being the latest. As much as I love the stuff from this company, I find myself slightly resenting the fact that they used to be a bit of an alternative to the mass of Windows machines out there: there was always a feeling that by going the Apple route you weren't just following the crowd. In some ways it seems unfortunate that times have changed; what was once a company selling very well built and designed computers has turned into a corporate monster with a continuous push to dominate the world of cool with their endless product placements in movies and more and more shiny but fairly useless products. I've own them since they started and Apple computer equipment since 1978. Which makes me very sad or something I know. One thing I will say is that they are pretty reliable as hardware, (no serious issues in last fives years) and OSX totally reliable. So for me that trumps about everything.I'm writing this review because the seller that came up claims an RRP higher than that at the Apple store. OK, there's a discount, but not as much as you think. Also, if you want my advice, don't touch the extended warranties that flag up on the page. If you want an extended warranty, and it's worth it for the battery - Apple will replace it FOC if it's under 100 cycles - then go for Applecare. Then you can get it fixed easily at the Applestore, where especially where batteries are concerned they have a liberal exchange policy. |

Cloned the existing disk without a hitch, but I used Acronis True Image rather than the Norton Ghost software that is thrown in with the new drives. I would avoid Norton Ghost - too many horror stories.When I re-booted using the new disk, performance was immediately much faster. Ran Samsung's SSD Magician utility (optimisation function, then over-provisioning), then re-booted again. It now takes 20 seconds from pressing the power button to seeing the desktop. Stunning. All programs open instantly. I also bought a 64GB version of this disk. I connected that to the esata port on my laptop using this cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005GNP72M/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 I then transferred a test folder containing 2GB of varied .pdf, .doc and email database files. I used this kit to upgrade the hard drive on a Dell laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. What you get is an SSD drive (with a spacer as it is thinner than a standard laptop drive), a USB adaptor that lets you connect it as an external drive for data migration, Norton Ghost, a further utility CD, and a short user manual.The packaging is great, but the bundle lacks a clear step-by-step guide so it can be confusing. Physically replacing the drive in a laptop is usually pretty easy if you have the right small screwdriver, but migrating the operating system takes some care. This is why Samsung supplies Norton Ghost; but it is overkill for the task and installs stuff that you may not need.
