Read more 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Great little machine for the money, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Synology DS212J 2 Bay NAS Enclosure (Accessory) I spent a lot of time reading reviews before purchasing a NAS and finally settling for this one.I have worked in IT for 20 years and have extensive knowledge on Networking so bear this in mind when using this review as a guide. The installation of the drive was simple, just a few screws to remove and then screw back in. Software setup for use with a Windows 7, Xbox, Sonos and Android clients on my home network has been simple. The web based management tools are easy to understand and use. The device is mainly being used as network storage for my DVD and music collections. Different DVD's can be stream to multiple devices simultaneously with no issues. The box is small and neat and very quiet in operation. It wakes from sleep with no issues with requests for data from the clients. I have not at this point found any use for the advanced features of this device such as download station, surveillance station or the mail... Read more 18 of 20 people found the following review helpful Extremely favourable first impression, By This review is from: Synology DS212J 2 Bay NAS Enclosure (Accessory) (I have only had this unit for two days, so bear in mind this review is based on initial impressions - I'm also using an old and relatively slow 250GB drive, as I'm not prepared to pay the current post-flood prices for TB drives!)The DS212J has only been on sale for a few weeks, but it builds upon a well regarded line of NAS devices, and shares Synology's mature DSM operating system. I've bought the unit as a backup device and media server. Day 1 thoughts: - looks cheap and cheerful, no problem with the aesthetics. - comes with an ethernet cable, which is good, as I've run out. - case construction is flimsy, and buckled alarmingly when I first opened it (I subsequently learned the knack of avoiding this problem). - inner drive bays seem well made and sturdy enough. - acceptably quiet, and my HDD is quite old so this should improve when I get a new one - windows install software on CD didn't run from Windows 7.
