| 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful  another excellent drive from WD - seems well made also, By This review is from: Western Digital My Passport 2TB Portable Hard Drive - Black (Accessory) I already have a couple of the 1TB "My Passport " drive, and I am very pleased to see this 2TB version.I have USB3.0 ports on my PC so the speed of this drive is excellent - as would be expected. It is also fully USB2.0 compatible. The drive comes with the WD software - I know some users like it and some users don't. What I did with my 1TB drives : one I reformatted completely without the WD software, so that I could use it simply as a removeable/portable media and exchange files with other users (without them needing to install WD software). I kept the second drive with the WD software, to give password protection and to take advantage of the back-up software. I very much like the finish on this 2TB drive, it has a matt effect, and looks as if it will wear better then the very glossy finish on the 1TB drives. Overall the case also feels more sturdy on the 2TB drive then on the 1TB, as if the material is slightly thicker. The 2TB drive... I have owned a few WD HDDs over the last few years and and was eager to try out this new 2.5" portable offering.I have never had a problem with WD drives and this is no exception. USB 3 means it is super fast at transferring data making it ideal for those of us who like to make regular back ups. Setting up is easy. It's just plug and play. The design itself is looks sleek and modern, and the drive is nice size so it won't take up too much room in a laptop bag or similar. I'm a long time fan of Western Digital drives. Not everyone likes the passport design but I find them visually appealing and chunky in a way that reassures of their quality. I already own a 0.350Tb passport drive as well as various myBook drives too and I've always found them reliable and long lasting. From my, admittedly, short ownership period of this one, I see no reason to doubt its build quality and eventual longevity.I use my passport drives as my portable backup and bulk storage for media and various virtual machines. I've not had it long enough to make a definitive opinion of its performance, the USB3.0 connectors make a big difference of course but it definitely feels a lot faster than the older drives I have with stable transfer of very large files done in about third the time I'd expected. The performance is also good enough for me to run virtual machines straight off the drive rather than having to copy them back to the local drive. Hard to say more... Read more |
