Well, yes but not by a lot. The biggest improvements are the resulting far more natural colours and also (for the people who intend to use Logitech's own software for recording) the onboard HD 1080p 30fps instant processing. The h.264 video compression is a moot point with me; although the end 1080p file is manageably small and of a fine quality, to my eyes it's lost enough definition in the processing to make you doubt its HD status - it's good but certainly not amazing. Personally I use VirtualDub to video-capture at 720p uncompressed (yes - the C920 does work with VirtualDub - I had my doubts!). The end file is of course enormous but the quality is notably superior to Logitech's own 1080p rendition. The onboard mics do a good job for their size and although Logitech's software allows for... This is an impressive-looking camera. It is compact, has a wipe-clean panel protecting the lens, a 6-foot USB cable, and a mounting bracket suitable for fixing the camera to a laptop computer, flat surface, or camera tripod. The Logitech range includes 13 webcams, of which this is the best model, if you ignore the more expensive "TV Cam for Skype". It offers HD 720p widescreen video recording and capture, 1080p HD for Skype video calling, and stereo sound recording.It comes wildly over-packaged in a very nice box that contains just the camera and a manual. The manual is an impressive 143 pages, though the English bit is a less impressive ten pages that just get you through the basics. Most of the useful information about the product is available online, and includes many training videos showing you how to do most tasks. No software is provided in the box. Definitely it is value for money. I highly recommend it. (oh, there is a little bit of misleading information, although it is on the box not the review. The product shows how it is top of the range by comparing it to the features of other products in the range. However, when you look at it, it's not comparing it with models that are similar, but the bottom of the range options, so of course it looks amazing by contrast!) |
