3.0 out of 5 stars Small and light but beware inconvenient features, 19 Dec 2011
This review is from: Kingston 16GB Portable Storage Wi-Drive (Accessory)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme ( What's this?)
The Wi-Drive is a small, light solid-state drive which connects by USB to your PC or Mac, so you can copy your files such as video, images and music, and then wirelessly to your iPhone or iPad for viewing. The device is the size of a smallish mobile phone, smart in appearance with comfortable rounded edges, and powered by a rechargeable battery. It comes with a short "Getting started" leaflet which explains the basics: charge the drive with the USB cable, copy some files to it, then set your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch to connect to its wifi transmitter. Download the free Wi-Drive app and run it to access the files.

So far so good, and it does work, but there are multiple inconveniences, some the fault of Apple for locking down the iOS operating system so tightly, and some the fault of Kingston.

The first problem is that your Apple device can only connect to one wifi connection at a time. It follows that if it is connected to the Wi-Drive, it is not also connected... Read more

This is a hard drive for the IPhone or IPad. It generates it's own WiFi, and is able to fit inside jeans pocket.

To use, first charge the device. Then move films, music or photos onto the hard drive, and download the free app to your IPhone or IPad. Change your settings to select the Kingston unit as your network, and then open the app. If you open the app before changing the network, it won't work. You would then need to close the app, and change the network before opening the app again.

It works well - and streams a film with no problem - up to three devices at a time. We tried this using two IPhones and an IPad, all streaming a different film at the same time, with no problem. It also works if the device is in the next room. I tend to leave it in my handbag at work, and can then play the media while in the meeting room next door.

There are other products with more space - it depends how much space you need. The other downside is that it won't play... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Like a Charm, a Must Have !, 9 Mar 2012
This review is from: Kingston 16GB Portable Storage Wi-Drive (Accessory)
Don't let the the bad reviews put you off this very clever and amazing device. I will try to explain in detail why I think this is a must have and why I believe its better having one of these with for example a 16gb iPad rather than a 32gb iPad.

Whilst I love my iPad and iPhone and would not be without them there are some very frustrating limitations mainly due to iTunes which you must use to add media. Some off these limitations I was not aware before purchasing the iPad.

For me the iPad really comes into its own when travelling and its where I appreciate it most but this is where you will most likely encounter the iTunes quirks and limitations.

One of the biggest issues with Apple devices is that if you load up a load of films for example and then go travelling you will have no way what so ever to add extra media unless of course you pay for it through the iTunes store as you are only allowed one iTunes library on one PC which will usually be your...
