Needed more backup so a took the plunge and bought the Seagate 2TB USB 3.0 drive - i only have USB 2.0 currently but it works out the box with both

Plugged it in and it worked staight away , no need to install software (it does have some but i didnt use it ) i run Rebit back up Rebit Version 5, 1 User (PC) and it has been perfect - its sits under the desk taking a backup every hour no problems

I will at some point upgrade my machine to USB 3.0 so with this drive i'm future proofed in terms of connectivity + you can buy extra adapters for firewire if needed

Great drive 100% reccomend this drive

I needed a large capacity external disk drive to save copies of my files, music and videos. My plan is to save data and unplug the external drive rather than have it permanently connected to the computer. There is onboard software but i don't want to use that either, all i want to do is back up files in case of unforeseen circumstances like the computer's drive malfunctioning or theft.
The drive i received from amazon is the same model but differs from the illustration. It has a nice solid feel and is whisper quiet in operation. The finish is a deep gloss black plastic, it does get warm to the touch in use but not excessively. There are two plug options, a two pin or standard uk three pin. I'm using it in USB 2.0 mode as my motherboard doesn't have USB 3.O. Overall, an essential purchase i would say as it is only when data is lost that people realise the value of it. Good quality genuinely plug n go product at a reasonable price for the capacity. Pre-installed software is easily deleted if you don't need it and there are no backwards-compatibility problems if you don't have USB 3.0 and/or are still running Windows XP. Just one disappointment: unlike other external HDDs I've seen (and the 2 others I own) this drive doesn't have an on/off switch, which means it has to be plugged and unplugged to switch it on and off... which is a nuisance.
