5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant player and excellent value for money., 4 Nov 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What is this?)
This review is from: LG BD660 Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Having been overcome by the irresistible siren-song of new shiny things I finally wore down the resistance of my more sensible other half and took the plunge to upgrade from our perfectly good three year old 37" Samsung LCD telly and ancient, though excellent, Toshiba DVD player. After much exhaustive research, the TV I fell for was a 42" LG LCD (the 42LK540U) and, as coincidence would have it, the Blu-ray player that finally seduced me was the LG BD660.

All of the other Blu-ray players seemed to have something against them, including poor DVD upscaling, noisy operation and price. This unit suffers none of these ills. Given that we have hundreds of DVDs, the quality of upscaling to full 1080p was an important consideration and we were not disappointed; obviously the quality of the upscaling depends on the quality of the DVD; for example Source Code is a bit grainy while Lord of the Rings is near Blu-ray quality, but all of the DVD's we've watched so far have been as good as... 5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant player for the money - does everything well., 7 Oct 2011
This review is from: LG BD660 Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
This is a fantastic no thrills players. Design is simple but practical.

2D play back of Blurays are brilliant. My only comparison is a first gen Sony player, but this streets ahead.
Note - Grainy images may occur because the player defaults to vivd colour setting while playing blurays. While playing a bluray access the info button and change colour to standard to see a drastic improvement.
Not tried 3D - so no comment.

Net apps are plentiful , including BBC iplayer in the UK. This allows access to HD content too.
You tube app though does not allow access to HD content.
Weather app, digital radio, film app (never heard of) and something to watch trailers, which I think piggy backs from youtube.

DNLA works like a charm. Reads my network server as a media server and file server. I can play everything with no issues. Only draw back is when reading from file server, files are not in alphabetical order and music is not displayed or player... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars LG BD660 3D BLU-RAY PLAYER, 21 Dec 2011
This review is from: LG BD660 Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Excellent and thoroughly capable Blu-ray player which plays 3d films very well and is also a dab hand at up scaling your existing Dvd's to near Blu-ray standard and it all works extremely well and more importantly the actual content looks brilliant almost breath-taking at times. If you don't have a smart TV you do now as it has a smart TV function so you can access BBC iplayer, YouTube, etc and this works very smoothly and without any fuss. You need to plug in an ethernet cable from your broadband router to the player to access this functionality or you could buy an LG wireless dongle although they are quite pricey so if you don't mind the extra wire that's the cheaper solution. For the money this does everything most people will ever need period, stop looking you've found your ideal Blu-ray player.
